Calibration of Thermal Viscoelastic Material Models for Dynamic Simulation of LG Interlayer Materials
The thermal viscoelastic behavior of SentryGlas (SG) laminated glass (LG) interlayer materials under dynamic tensile loading is investigated in this paper. The study addresses the challenges posed by significant temperature and strain rate effects on accurately modeling the dynamic response of LG. While previous research has often simplified the modeling process using bilinear approximations models, this study explores the three-network viscoplastic (TNV) model to capture temperature and strain rate effects effectively. The objective of this research is to calibrate material models for the thermal viscoelastic dynamic responses of SG materials. Uniaxial tensile tests were conducted at different strain rates (2, 20, and 45 s⁻¹) and temperatures (0°C, 23°C, and 60°C). The experimental data obtained were used to calibrate the material models. Finite element analysis employing the calibrated material models accurately predicted the dynamic responses of SG within a 7% error. The results demonstrate that the calibrated models using the TNV model offer improvements over existing approaches for modeling the dynamic response of LG.
