Localization, Gender, and Age Differentiation of the Costume Complex of Andronovo (Fedorovo) Culture in the Altai Foothills (Based on Materials from the Chekanovsky Log-2 and 10 Burial Grounds)

The article is devoted to the consideration of the peculiarities of localization and gender and age differentiation of the clothing item complex in the context of the burial rites of the Andronovo (Fyodorovo) culture of the Altai foothills. The source base of the study was the burials of the Andronovo (Fyodorovo) culture from the two most studied necropolises — Chekanovsky Log-2 and Chekanovsky Log-10. In total, 208 Andronovo burials were studied at these cemeteries during 1997–2011 and 2013, of which representative source material on the clothing item complexwas found in 44 burials. In the course of the undertaken study, a spatial taphonomic correlation of the contexts of discovery of different types of jewelry in the burials was carried out. Five main areas of concentration of finds were determined. A tendency was recorded associatedwith the fact that incorruptible jewelry on men was located primarily in the head area; on children in the head and legs area; and on women they covered most of the body. The features of gender distribution of jewelry in burials of people of different sexes and ages are analyzed. The relationship between individual types of finds, their localization in the grave, as well as the sex and age of the buried person is established.
