From philosophy to practice: The perspective of Simondon and Stiegler on intelligent architecture

In the context of the information age, smart buildings, as a product of the intersection of architecture and information technology, have become an important symbol of global economic integration and social informatization development. Nonetheless, despite the increasing significance of intelligent buildings, the application of philosophical theories in their conceptualization, implementation, and operational maintenance stages remains insufficient. This insufficiency, to a certain extent, constrains the depth of theoretical exploration and the breadth of practical application within the field of intelligent buildings. This paper focuses on the philosophical theories of Gilbert Simondon and Bernard Stiegler, discussing the role of philosophy in the entire lifecycle of intelligent building design, construction, and operation. It uses the examples of TESLAI AI PARK and the Shanghai Tower to refine the application scenarios from philosophy to practice. Simondon and Stigler emphasize the viewpoint of technology and human society interacting and coexisting. This not only aligns with the future development of intelligent buildings, which requires a combination of technological innovation and philosophical guidance to achieve user experience, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability goals, but also provides a theoretical foundation for understanding and addressing change in the context of intelligent building's increased focus on technological progress, shaping architectural practice efficiency, and sustainability.
