Iterative Reconstruction of an Aluminum Piston by Simultaneous Algebraic Reconstruction Technique Method Using Graphic Processor

Currently, X-ray tomography is increasingly used to control shaped castings of complex shapes. The use of three-dimensional images of foundry products allows not only to effectively control the shape of products and the presence of defects in them, but also has a fundamental impact on industrial technologies for the production of mechanical engineering products, closing the technological production cycle in the chain: “computer-aided design—computer-aided production—automatic control.” At leading machine-building enterprises in developed countries, X-ray tomography has made it possible to develop, prepare for production and control shaped castings of various automotive parts and tractor engines to a qualitatively new level. The production of critical products of modern engineering (automobile, tractor and aircraft engines, helicopter blades, cooled turbine blades) is often based on the use of modern means of measuring linear dimensions using traditional contact measurement methods. However, such measurements are impossible when assessing dimensions inside complex shaped parts and prefabricated or non-separable connections. With a caliper it is impossible to measure the wall thickness of a cooled turbine blade of a complex truss, as well as, for example, the size of the gap inside a nonseparable valve. Such problems are solved with the help of industrial X-ray tomography, which is capable of making the necessary measurements without geometric distortions, with a high degree of accuracy, in a noncontact, interactive mode. The achieved accuracy is comparable to the accuracy of traditional means of contact measurement of the external dimensions of industrial products.
