Social Capital and Life Satisfaction Among Middle-Aged Male One-Person Households:A Focus on the Daegu Survey (2022)

The increase in one-person households in our society is being observed across all age groups and is expected to continue in the future. This study aims to verify the impact of social capital on life satisfaction among middle-aged male one-person households and to provide essential data for future policies related to life satisfaction. The data for the analysis was derived from the Daegu Survey (2022) microdata published by Daegu Metropolitan City, focusing on a total of 521 middle-aged men living alone. The primary analytical methods used in this study were factor analysis and multiple logistic regression analysis. Factor analysis was used to measure social capital. To examine the effect of social capital on life satisfaction, multiple logistic regression analysis was applied. The analysis utilized variables such as measured social capital, average monthly household income, educational level, and economic status as independent variables, with life satisfaction designated as the dependent variable. The results of the analysis confirmed that social capital has a significant statistical influence on life satisfaction, as well as the effects of income, education, and economic circumstances. This study provided insights into the importance of social capital for life satisfaction among middle-aged male one-person households, a group that relatively lacks policy supports and attentions, and highlighted the need for policies to enhance social capital.
