Achieving the superior corrosion resistance of a Co-free MPEAs by tuning B2 phase
Co-free multi-principal elements alloys (MPEAs) FeCrNiAl has good properties of high strength due to the biphasic structure of BCC and B2. However, the corrosion sensitivity of B2 nanophase restricts the application of these alloys in seawater environments. Here, the Co-free Fe36Cr36Al(28−x)Nix MPEAs, which presents superior corrosion resistance with corrosion current density <0.3 μA/cm2 and corrosion potential > −200 mVSCE was prepared. And the corrosion resistance is ascribed to the refinement and homogenization of B2 nanophase which can be controlled by increasing the ratio of the Ni and Ai elements.
