Temporal adaptability and stability of white and cream‐fleshed experimental genotypes of sweet potato in the Western Paulista Region

ABSTRACT The study investigated the adaptability and temporal stability of experimental white‐ and cream‐fleshed sweet potato genotypes in the Western Paulista region of Brazil. Sweet potato is an important crop for food security; however, in Brazil, its productivity faces limitations due to the low adoption of modern technologies and improved genotypes. This study aimed to identify superior white and cream‐fleshed sweet potato genotypes in the Western Paulista region, focusing on their stability and adaptability across six different cultivation periods. Methods such as the linear regression of Eberhart and Russell, the non‐parametric method of Lin and Binns modified by Carneiro, the centroid method with additional points, and additive main effects and multiplicative interaction analysis (AMMI) were employed to analyse adaptability and stability of genotypes. The results indicated that genotypes G15‐UBD‐C‐06, G17‐UBD‐K‐39, and G1‐UBD‐L1‐04 (cream‐fleshed) stood out with high tuberous root yields and phenotypic stability under different cultivation conditions. The different methods confirmed the adaptability of these genotypes to various cultivation periods, demonstrating their potential for cultivation under multiple environmental conditions in the Western Paulista region. These genotypes could potentially contribute to stable and productive sweet potato yields.
