Policy and investment gaps in IPC
Infection prevention and control (IPC) interventions remain critically underfunded in many countries, exacerbating the burden of health care-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), according to two recent WHO reports. On Nov 29, 2024, WHO published the second Global Report on Infection Prevention and Control and, on March 5, 2025, the organisation published a follow-up report, The Case for Investment and Action in Infection Prevention and Control, which outlines the economic and health benefits of strengthening IPC programmes.
