Feasibility of Developing Banana - Cotton Blended Fabric as A Sustainable Textile

The world is slowly realizing the damaging effects of several chemicals that are synthesized by men in laboratory and since then natural fibre are becoming an attractive alternative over synthetic fibers. The present investigation was carried out to prepare fabric materials from blending of two agro based fibers which was banana and jute in ratio 75:25. These blendings are most suitable because both are cellulose in nature, and blending can be done homogenously. In this study using banana and jute fibre to produce blended yarn and then weaves it into fabric in an eco friendly process. The woven fabric was evaluated for its physical properties viz fabric count, cover factor, thickness, tenacity, moisture management etc. and utilized for different end used. It can be produced on a larger scale and provide scope for the development of rural employment.
