ARTISTIC SPECIFICITY OF T. ARKHIPOV’S NOVEL “ALL YOUR BEAUTY”

The article is devoted to the analysis of the specifics of Trofim Arkhipov’s novel All Your Beauty (1963) and its revised Russian-language version of 1976. The author depicts the fate of Soviet people working on the construction of the Votkinsk hydroelectric power station on the Kama River. The confrontation between the worker innovator Vladimir Romanov and the conservative engineer Isai Lagunenko is built according to the canons of the traditional Soviet novel. The author introduced interesting details into the well-known structure described by K. Clark, M. Litovskaya and others. The worker Romanov is shown as a new type of Soviet person, but at the same time he is devoid of national identity. The image of Romanov is revealed in a new way in the dream of the sick Shadrin. The context of the work includes the names of L. Tolstoy, P. Tchaikovsky and A. Scriabin, designed to expand the horizons of national culture. The Udmurt writer was not afraid to point out the shadow sides of Soviet reality. The ability to portray the complex, contradictory characters of Lagunenko and his wife Elena are important artistic merits of T. Arkhipov.
