Optimizing piezoelectric performance with high operating temperature in xPYN-(0.52-x)PZ-0.48PT Ceramics

Obtaining high piezoelectric performance at extremely high Curie temperatures ( T C ) is challenging and limits high operating temperature applications of piezoelectric ceramics . In this study, high- T C Pb(Yb 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 (PYN) was introduced into Pb(Zr, Ti)O 3 (PZT) to regulate the Curie temperature and piezoelectric properties of x PYN-(0.52– x )PZ-0.48PT ceramics. The 0.08PYN-0.44PZ-0.48PT ceramic, located at the optimal morphotropic phase boundary (MPB), exhibited superior piezoelectric properties ( d 33 ∼ 496 pC/N, d 33 ∗ ∼ 763 pm/V) and an exceptionally high T C (∼407 °C), surpassing values reported in prior studies. x PYN-(0.52– x )PZ-0.48PT ceramics demonstrates outstanding temperature stability (variation ∼ 7.4 %, @30–190 °C), especially at elevated temperatures (variation ∼ 1.4 %, @90–190 °C). This highlights the significant potential of x PYN-(0.52– x )PZ-0.48PT for high-temperature piezoelectric applications.

Abstract

Obtaining high piezoelectric performance at extremely high Curie temperatures ( T C ) is challenging and limits high operating temperature applications of piezoelectric ceramics . In this study, high- T C Pb(Yb 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 (PYN) was introduced into Pb(Zr, Ti)O 3 (PZT) to regulate the Curie temperature and piezoelectric properties of x PYN-(0.52– x )PZ-0.48PT ceramics. The 0.08PYN-0.44PZ-0.48PT ceramic, located at the optimal morphotropic phase boundary (MPB), exhibited superior piezoelectric properties ( d 33 ∼ 496 pC/N, d 33 ∗ ∼ 763 pm/V) and an exceptionally high T C (∼407 °C), surpassing values reported in prior studies. x PYN-(0.52– x )PZ-0.48PT ceramics demonstrates outstanding temperature stability (variation ∼ 7.4 %, @30–190 °C), especially at elevated temperatures (variation ∼ 1.4 %, @90–190 °C). This highlights the significant potential of x PYN-(0.52– x )PZ-0.48PT for high-temperature piezoelectric applications.
