CORRELATION OF SF RATIO WITH PF RATIO IN MECHANICALLY VENTILATED PATIENTS ADMITTED IN PICU

Background: PF ratio is useful diagnostic criteria for children with Hypoxic respiratory failure (HRF), Acute lung injury (ALI) & Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). This measurement requires invasive arterial sampling in critically ill patients, In order to reduce invasive procedure an alternative non invasive marker needed. SF ratio by pulse oximetry test may be reliable non invasive measurement for HRF, ALI and ARDS. Objective: Correlation of SF ratio with PF ratio in patients admitted in PICU requiring mechanical ventilation. Methods: Children aged 1 month to 14 year admitted in PICU, requiring mechanical ventilation during December 2021 to December 2022 and those tting into inclusion and exclusion criteria were included, relevant clinical and laboratory details were recorded in the pre constructed proforma. PF ratio and SF ratio correlation of those patients were calculated and statistically analyzed. Results: In this study total 120 patients enrolled, of which 60% were male and 40% were female. Invasive ventilation required in 49.2% and non- invasive ventilation required in 50.8% patients. SF ratio and PF ratio were signicantly correlated with correlation coefcient r=0.717, (p=0.000). Conclusion: SF ratio and PF ratio are signicantly correlated so non invasive SF ratio can be used to assess severity of HRF, ARDS and ALI.
