Water Quality in School Environments: a Case Study in Southeastern Pará
The study evaluated the quality of water consumed at the Deuzuita Melo de Albuquerque Municipal School in Marabá/PA, aiming for compliance with the standards of Ordinance GM/MS No. 888/2021 and international guidelines. The research analysed physicochemical parameters (pH, residual chlorine, turbidity, and apparent color) and microbiological indicators (total coliforms and Escherichia coli) in three school drinking fountains. The samples indicated compliance with regulatory limits, ensuring water potability. The water supply system consists of an artesian well and an 8,000-liter reservoir, with maintenance and periodic analysis conducted by Quântica Laboratório Ambiental. The data demonstrated effective disinfection, balanced pH (6.0–9.5), low turbidity (<1 TU), and absence of coliforms and E. coli. The research underscores the importance of continuous monitoring in school environments to prevent waterborne diseases and ensure health and academic performance. The findings contribute to public policies focused on water management and school infrastructure, emphasizing educational and environmental awareness initiatives.
