Numerical study of parameters affecting surface integrity in machine hammer peening of AISI 4140
This study investigates the influence of key parameters in machine hammer peening on the surface integrity of AISI 4140 steel using numerical simulations. Variables such as impact velocity, friction between the workpiece and tool, and peening frequency are analyzed to evaluate their effects on indent size, impact area, and residual stress. The numerical approach provides a comprehensive understanding of how these parameters can be optimized to enhance mechanical properties, supplemented by experiments to validate the simulation results. The findings reveal significant correlations between processing conditions and surface integrity, offering practical insights for improving machine hammer peening processes in industrial applications.
