Leiomyosarcoma of the spleen: A rare case report

Leiomyosarcoma is a rare tumor commonly seen in the stomach, small intestine, retroperitoneum, and uterus. Leiomyosarcoma with splenic origin is not very common. The diagnosis of this tumor is very difficult, and most of the patients present late in their life with metastasis to distant organs. We hereby report a case of leiomyosarcoma of the spleen diagnosed after doing splenectomy in view of splenic hematoma. The patient presented to the outpatient department with recurrent abdominal pain, and initial evaluation showed a large splenic cystic lesion or splenic hematoma. Initially, he was treated with pigtail drainage in suspicion of splenic hematoma. After few weeks, he again got similar complaints and this time the patient was taken up for splenectomy. After immunohistochemistry reports, it was diagnosed as a case of leiomyosarcoma of the spleen with local metastasis to the pancreas.
