Synthesis and Physicochemical Properties of Epoxidized Rubber Seed Oil from Acetic and Formic Acids under Identical Reaction Conditions

The main objective of this article was to report the synthesis and the physicochemical properties of epoxidized rubber seed oil (ERSO) from acetic and formic acids under identical reaction conditions at 60 °C. The effect of organic acids on epoxy content and other physicochemical properties were determined. The differences observed in the ERSO samples were explained in terms of the structural parameters derived from FTIR, 1H, and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The physicochemical characteristics of the ERSO samples were similar to those of the currently available commercial epoxy vegetable oils.
