Radiation safety evaluation method of negative ion indoor finishing materials
Increasing the concentration of negative ions in the living space could improve the comfort of life, but there are currently insufficient evaluation methods for the radiation safety of negative ion indoor finishing materials. This paper presents a method for calculating the average surface exhalation rate of 220 Rn gas in indoor finishing materials containing 232 Th. Additionally, it evaluates the possible radiation dose effect of 220 Rn gas on the human body under different air exchange rates. Based on the testing and analysis of three types of negative ion indoor finishing materials. Indoor negative ion finishing materials containing 232 Th can lead to radioactive pollution, which must attract everyone’s attention. Among them, 220 Rn is the main pollution source . When conducting radiation safety evaluations, attention should be focused on the internal radiation dose caused by 220 Rn. it is found that the 220 Rn exhalation rate of veneer leather material is too large and that it is not recommended to be used as indoor finishing materials. The radiation safety evaluation method for negative ion indoor finishing materials containing thorium is effective. In the meanwhile, much attention should be paid to the harm caused by 220 Rn. • Evaluates the radiation dose effect of negative ion indoor finishing materials containing 232 Th. • A method to calculate the average surface exhalation rate of 220 Rn gas from indoor finishing materials. • Certain materials with high radon emission may be unsafe for indoor use, rigorous safety assessments and regulatory standards are essential.
