Influence of Bottom Sections Number of a Cold Crucible Induction Melting Furnance and Skin Effect on the Electrical Parameters of the Inductor

This work investigates electromagnetic processes in a bottom-heated induction furnace of the induction melting in a cold crucible with bottom heating (IMCC–BH) by means of numerical modeling with a 3D electromagnetic model. Due to the improved melting scheme, IMCC–BH furnaces are promising for vitrification of radioactive waste. We analyze the influence of the number of bottom sections of the cold crucible and the degree of manifestation of the surface effect in the melt bath m2 of borosilicate glass on the electrical parameters of the inductor, including electrical skin effect, power pool, inductor voltage and current, power in the melt, etc. On the basis of the data obtained, recommendations on achieving optimal values of the investigated parameters, which provide for increased efficiency and reliability of BH IFCC, are formulated.
