Dual-layer metasurfaces for the manipulation of structured beams

Dual-layer metasurfaces represent a breakthrough in structured light control, offering compact, efficient manipulation of spatial, spectral, and polarization properties. By combining two layers of subwavelength structures, each optimized independently, this design achieves precise control over beam phase and intensity, surpassing single-layer capabilities. Dual-layer metasurfaces can generate complex interference patterns, enabling advanced wavefront and polarization shaping that traditional optics cannot achieve. This technology is ideal for beam-shaping techniques like logarithmic-polar or circular-sector patterns, critical in applications such as particle trapping, laser machining, and optical communications. Our work presents the design, simulation, and fabrication of ultra-compact dual-layer metasurfaces for structured beam manipulation, facilitating miniaturized, high-functionality optical systems essential for next-generation applications.
