Characterization of ultrashort pulses at FLASH

The development of ultrashort FEL pulses with few-fs and sub-fs pulses is a research field in the FEL community with promising applications. One of these applications are pump/probe experiments with ultrashort FEL pulses, as the temporal dynamic of the system is a key to the fundamental understanding of its underlying physics. By a strong non-linear reverse tapering of the electron bunch FEL radiation with a single spike spectrum is generated. Therefore, the pulse duration can be evaluated by an first order autocorrelation. With a split-and-delay line unit for the XUV and soft X-ray spectral range we performed linear and non-linear measurements to evaluate the temporal characteristics of these ultrashort pulses with attosecond resolution. The non-linear Autocorrelation was performed at a photon energy of 206 eV in Ar gas.
