Subscription-Based Joint 5G-Radar System Design and Analysis

Spectral resources have been running short, and it is inevitable for radar and communication users to share spectrum, which can cause performance loss. While there are several methods to potentially address this problem, integrating radar systems into existing cellular networks offers a low-cost solution. Radar users can subscribe as multiple communication users in the communication network to utilize part of the communication bandwidth as radar waveform. In this paper, we simulate the subscription-based joint 5G-radar system in MATLAB and discuss the radar performance and sidelobe level distribution using different waveforms generated from different spectral allocations in 5G networks, including using randomly selected frequency bands, edges and center of the spectrum, in order to find a balance between cost and performance.
