Analysis of Dynamic Metasurface Antennas Under Matching Network Constraints
Dynamic metasurface antennas (DMAs) are a type of waveguide-fed reconfigurable slot antenna with integrated tunable components that enable low-power beamforming. Despite recent advances made to optimize signal processing and beamforming with DMAs, there is minimal work investigating the improvement of the DMA matching efficiency. In this paper, we explore impedance matching for DMAs and extend previous impedance models for static slot antennas to the reconfigurable DMA. We also provide an optimization algorithm to increase the DMA matching efficiency without any external matching network or additional components. The simulation results show that the matching optimization procedure significantly improves the matching efficiency of DMAs with high coupling.
