Pervomyasky-2 and Pervomyasky-3 Paleolithic Sites in Southern Transurals Piedmont Steppe

Deposition conditions and cultural layer integrity of Paleolithic monuments in the Southern Transurals directly depend on their layout. The Foreurals area is featured with the cultural layer dated back to MIS-3 and significant lamination at the foot of the first terrace above the floodplain. The mountainous Paleolithic layers also bear significant lamination and are associated with deposits in caves and grottos, with the second terrace above the floodplain and the foot of the first terrace above the floodplain. The Southern Transurals region is a denudational area. Therefore, it is typical to find the cultural layer there laying not too deep. Consequently, the cultural layer gets exposed due to any surface disturbance. The nature of the Southern Urals development in the Stone Age unfolds as researches explore the area and collect evidence. The first discoveries were made by S.N. Bibikov. They allowed presuming promising Paleolithic finds in caves and grottos of the Southern Urals. Yet, the researches went further and enhanced to substantial expeditions of G.N. Matyushin and South Ural Expedition of the Institute of History, Language and Literature of the Ufa Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences to the Southern Transurals. These studies reveal numerous Stone Age monuments across the region. Accumulating evidence raises the urgency to establish peculiarities and nature of the Transural Bashkiria development during the Stone Age. A step forward in this issue is a monument explored in 2019. It is Pervomaysky-2 site. This site is the largest site in the Transural Bashkiria where exposed flint items were collected and tested. Even though the Southern Urals host a lot of exposed jasper and phtanite, this monument makes to believe that there was little flint raw materials good enough for proper flaking. Nearby scientists discovered Pervomaysky-3 site associated with a wash - a dry watercourse of the Yangelka River left tributary. There the study also explored a bifacial scraper with a deflated surface. This item is similar to the items from the Mid Paleolithic monuments in the Southern Transurals. The appearance of the item demonstrates particular integrity in comparison to the Upper Paleolithic finds.
