Robotization of libraries: the latest developments and practical cases

In the article is considered the new developments and definite practical cases connecting with the robotization of the library space and maintenance in the 21st century. It is noted that digital evolution has covered almost all spheres, including librarianship, and this is especially evident in the example of artificial intelligence and robotics, which are actively implemented in the library and information field at the modern stage. It is proved on the example of specific developments and cases (mobile robots Finch and Libby, Book Smile working prototype, Comprehensive Access to Printed Materials project, UJI robot librarian, etc.) that the latest robot technologies help libraries to replenish their collections, improve interaction with users by responding quickly to their requests, and support the values of intellectual freedom, accessibility, and diversity. At the same time, there are currently many challenges posed by the robotization of the library sphere, including privacy and security, digital collection management, equitable access, and preservation of cultural heritage, lack of funding, job losses, and insufficient technical knowledge and skills required to maintain or operate robots. The conclusion has been made that modern libraries may lose touch with the times if they do not use new technologies, including robotics, and actively improve the methodology of providing information and services with their help.
