Assessing The Health of Gomti River Water of Lucknow Region by Water Quality Indices
The primary global issue is the contamination of river water. Rivers have emerged as the most convenient disposal sites for industrial effluents and domestic sewage all over the globe. However, the river Gomti is not an exception. The current study emphasizes on a segment of the Gomti River within Lucknow city, Uttar Pradesh, spanning from 80.899893 to 80.968180 latitude and 26.886799 to 26.833321 longitudes. Seven sampling sites were selected between Manjhighat and Piparaghat to conduct a comprehensive assessment of physio-chemical water parameters. Dissolved oxygen (DO), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Coliform and Fecal Coliform are the water quality indices which was taken into consideration for the purpose of the study. The results showed that Sampling site 1 i.e. Manhighat is found to be healthy as different water quality indices like Dissolved Oxygen, Biochemical Oxygen Demand, Chemical Oxygen Demand comes within the permissible limits as per CPCB. But in contrast the Sampling site 7 i.e. Pipraghat is found to highly polluted as all the water physiochemical parameters does not exist within the permissible limits as per CPCB.
