Prospective Clinical Study of Newborn Fingernails Including Onychoscopy
The literature provides limited information on healthy nail features in newborns, emphasizing a need for comprehensive studies on their physiological characteristics. A prospective observational study was conducted at a single pediatric center in Bologna, Italy. Both clinical and onychoscopic evaluations were performed to assess fingernail dimensions, shapes, colors, and other features. This study highlights key physiological fingernail features in newborns, demonstrating sex variation.
