Analysis of the fragility of natural and anthropized environments to subsidize public policies of land use in a hydrographic basin in the brazilian savannah

The quantity and quality of water resources are fundamental for the balance of life on Earth. This study analyzes the environmental fragility of a hydrographic basin, inserted in the spatial scenario of Brazilian agrobusiness. Furthermore, the hydrographic basin is the focus of a water withdrawal project aiming to supply the increasing water demand by the urban population of the city of Rio Verde. The analysis of the environmental fragility was accomplished using the Fragility Model of Natural and Anthropized Environments and geotechnologies. The referred model consists of the integration of physical natural factors (dissection of the relief, soils, and erosivity of the rain) and the conservation degrees of the different kinds of land use concerning the environment, using Geospatial Intelligence. The integration of the physical natural aspects showed that 51.14% and 45.82% of the study area fit the categories of low and medium potential fragility, respectively. The results of potential fragility and degree of soil protection indicated that 67.45% and 0.51% of the river basin are in the high and very high fragility categories, in that order. It was observed that the anthropic actions are intensifying and the erosive processes, causing laminar erosions, furrows, ravines, and gullies.
