Implementation of an embracement and primary care user dental clinic in a public state university

Currently, undergraduate courses in dentistry are based on guidelines that seek to train professionals capable of integrating technical knowledge with the basic principles of the Unified Health System (SUS). Reception is an integral strategy that provides Dentistry students with quality training that is closer to public policies and local reality. This study aimed to evaluate the completion of medical records and the profile of patients treated at the Embracement and Primary Care User Dental Clinic of the State University of Paraiba (UEPB) during the first year of its implementation, which occurred in 2016. For that, 100 dental records were initially evaluated. There was a higher prevalence of records belonging to young, white, female patients from Araruna. The main reasons for consultation were pain, dental caries, and routine appointment. Most patients did not present systemic alterations, and of those who did, the most prevalent were hypotension, migraine and sinusitis. The most commonly used medications were antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, hypoglycemic agents and antidepressants. The average length of dental treatment was 10.5 months. It was found that most of the dental records were incompletely filled out, with important items such as the main complaint, dental chart (odontogram) and treatment plan being ignored, which could compromise the start of the patient's treatment.
