MORTE E LUTO NA VIVÊNCIA DO PROFISSIONAL DE SAÚDE: Uma revisão integrativa

This study aims to understand the experience of death and mourning on the part of health professionals. To this end, an integrative review of national and international literature was carried out in the LILACS, MEDLINE, IndexPsi, Nursing Database and PePsic databases, from 2019 to 2024, in Portuguese and English, in an attempt to answer the question guiding principle: how do healthcare professionals experience death and grief? After the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 40 articles were selected to be read in full and, of these, 27 articles were included in the study. From reading the articles, the following categories emerged: attitudes, senses and emotional reactions towards death; dealing with death in the pandemic context; challenges and limitations of professional training; possibilities of support and elaboration of death. The results show that, although death is seen as a natural event, there are significant emotional difficulties, influenced by factors such as the health context in which the death occurs, academic training and emotional support in health institutions. It is suggested to expand studies on professional mourning, in order to contemplate the different facets of it, as well as reflections on the implications for occupational illness.
