Splenic infarct due to scrub typhus: A rare presentation
Abstract We report the case of a 71-year-old male patient who presented with a history of high-grade intermittent fever for the preceding 6 days, breathlessness for the preceding 6 days and left upper quadrant abdominal pain for the preceding 3 days. Scrub typhus immunoglobulin M enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay tested positive. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed ill-defined hypoechoic wedge-shaped areas in the spleen, suggestive of splenic infarcts which were confirmed by computed tomography of the abdomen. The present case documents the rare occurrence of splenic infarct as a result of disseminated vasculitis due to scrub typhus.
