L’insediamento fortificato medioevale di Castel Glorioso (Abriola, Basilicata) nel più ampio contesto insediativo castellare lucano
This contribution focuses on the area of the medieval fortified settlement of Gloriosa or Castel Glorioso, located in the axial sector of the Lucanian Apennines and a few kilometers south of Potenza, in the municipality of Abriola. It is part of a much broader study, aimed at recovering the historical sources and the remaining material evidence of those Lucan settlements "disappeared little known or even unpublished. The work carried out has allowed to draw a broader and more precise picture on the physical and spatial characteristics and the historical process relevant to the ancient fortified center of Castel Glorioso, starting from the first investigations and surveys carried out in the field between July and October 2017 and in 2023, from the comparison with the edited bibliography, from studies of historical-settlement character, from the analysis of the relict archaeological traces and of the morpho-charactersevolutive of the natural landscape of a wider settlement context, up to the helicopter flights carried out with the Protection Unit of the heritage of the carabinieri. All these data have allowed to provide a new and unedited proposal of the settlement framework of the area examined and in particular the feud of Norman origin, as well as on the structure of the fortified area, equipped with central tower, walls and an absidiole. The state of conservation of the site is very poor and failure to restore and preserve it could jeopardise its survival. The focus of this in-depth study has been on: therefore, the specific objective of awakening local and institutional sensitivities in order to define specific strategies for intervention and recovery and preservation of a local historical memory and in general related to the Norman period in Basilicata.
