Il rilievo delle strutture fortificate sull’isola di Spinalonga in Grecia

The research examines the subject of the survey of fortified architecture on the island of Spinalonga in Greece. The analysis, starting from the few graphic and iconographic sources, describes, with the tools of the discipline of Architectural Drawing, the actions and processes of surveying defence structures. The survey activities were intended to outline an approach to architectural reality by acquiring the consistency of metric and environmental data, finalised at understanding and documenting fortified architecture. The survey was conducted by means of acquisition operations with Structure from Motion (SfM) photogrammetric processes both from the ground and from UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). The decision to use an image-based method was considered suitable for the documentation of fortified artefacts, taking into account both the lighting conditions and the purpose of the survey, to describe the defence elements with high accuracy through the construction of a three-dimensional image intended as an aid for the interpretation of the artefact, taking advantage of the reduced data acquisition times.
