Scan-to-BIM strategies and standards for HBIM purposes. A case study
Today, when planning graphic documentation for architectural heritage, there are many tools – both hardware and software – that we can consider using to complete the work. In the past decade, there has also been a significant scientific output related to the popular concept of “Scan-to-BIM”.However, most publications focus, in some cases, on outcomes aimed at achieving a BIM model with a certain Level of Detail (LOD) and, in others, on the theoretical aspects of the workflow to be followed. In this paper, we aim to address the lack of works that discuss the different strategies that can be implemented in specific cases, depending on the various purposes for which this documentation will be used, while considering the standards that can be derived from existing epistemology. This work includes a reflection on the different workflow options and techniques to be applied to the same case study based on the intended purpose of the HBIM model. The specific case study is the documentation of an Almohad tower located in the Alcázar of Seville (Spain), showcasing and discussing some of the results obtained.
