La Campagna di Sicilia. Infrastrutture e logistica alla temperatura del presente

at the beginning of the 30s, the efforts were redirected to other needs, such as the reconstruction of a capillary costal defence system, the network defence system that would have been used during 2nd world war to face the Anglo-American intervention alongside the Italian coasts in 1943.The Allied landing in Sicily is to be considered equally important to the one in Normandy, notwithstanding the common sense on that event, due to several reasons. By the way, there are several evidences (physical and retrieved from archives) that show the importance of those defence infrastructures not only for Sicily itself but also for the entire Nation. That introduces to the topic of costal architecture as we see it nowadays and to the alteration of our litorals, with consequences on the landscape and urban planning. Most of the defence infrastructures are now located inside protected areas, with the consequence that they cannot be visited and restored to their original posture. The aim of this project is to investigate strategies aimed at restoring the original landscape identity of those fortifications, in order to give the artifact a new life in close relations to local history, cultural heritage and last – but not least – for touristic exploitation.

Abstract

at the beginning of the 30s, the efforts were redirected to other needs, such as the reconstruction of a capillary costal defence system, the network defence system that would have been used during 2nd world war to face the Anglo-American intervention alongside the Italian coasts in 1943.The Allied landing in Sicily is to be considered equally important to the one in Normandy, notwithstanding the common sense on that event, due to several reasons.
