SYMBOLS OF MEDIEVAL CULTURE IN THE PERCEPTION OF MODERN YOUTH

Background. The paper presents a psychosemantic analysis of the language representation of photographic images of ancient Russian temple tiles. Purpose. The aim of the research is to study the strategies of perception and understanding by young people of the content, meaning and significance of images in the photos of tiles. Materials and methods. A directed associative experiment, a survey and a content analysis of the responses were used. The results were considered in three aspects: substantive, structural and dynamic. A meaningful analysis of the repeated responses that made up the semantic core and the near-nuclear semantic space was carried out. During the structural analysis, we relied on F.E. Vasilyuk's model of the image of consciousness "Psychosemiotic tetrahedron", which includes the subject content of the image, personal meaning, meaning and word (sign). Characterizing the dynamic aspect of the respondents' semantic genesis, we used the approach of D.A. Leontiev and E.V. Belonogova, who identified 10 individual strategies for the perception of the works of art. Results. The novelty lies in the identification of perception strategies and psychosemantics using the example of tiles as elements of medieval culture. Semantic core for the Pskov Kremlin tile: beauty (19 answers), decoration (8), life (5), vase (5), comfort (5); for the tile of St. George's Church: information transmission (11), history (7), protection (6); for the tile of the Snetogorsky monastery: bird (8), decoration (7), life (5). When conducting a structural analysis, the dominant pole among the matching answers to the question of the meaning of images is the pole "meaning", a smaller number of answers, mostly of an emotionally colored nature, refers to the pole "personal meaning", as well as to the pole "subject content of the image", which includes description of the artistic features of the images. The respondents most frequently used the pictorial, summarizing, emotional strategies of perception; the least frequently used were the impressive and stylistic ones. The results obtained can be used in the fields of regional studies, religious studies, tourism, environmental psychology of the city, psychology of art, design, advertising, etc. EDN: IXRQRK
