Clinical analysis and characterization of the passive and active infrared dermoscopy for skin cancer triage: an accuracy evaluation

total of 21 cases of malignant melanomas were diagnosed, compared to 28 cases in the equivalent period in 2019 (25% reduction). In the 2nd national lockdown (November -December 2020), 21 cases were diagnosed, compared to 15 cases in the equivalent period in 2019 (40% increase). For the 3rd national lockdown (January -March 2021), 20 cases were recorded, compared to 22 cases in the equivalent period in 2020 (9% reduction). The proportion of highrisk melanomas (pT3a -pT4b) was 32.4% pre-pandemic, 33.1% midpandemic, and 31.9%post-pandemic.Likewise, ulceration status, mitotic index, LVI & BT remained unchanged post-pandemic Conclusions: Our data suggests the number of in-situ lesions diagnosed decreased during the mid-pandemic period but increased post-pandemic, indicating a potential delay in the presentation of these patients.Whilst fewer melanoma diagnoses were made in the months affected by national lockdowns, there was no overall difference year-on-year, no resultant increase in diagnoses after the pandemic nor rise in the diagnosis of high-risk melanomas. In summary, uninterrupted face-to-face and rapid adoption of teledermatology services were sufficient in preventing missed melanoma diagnoses during the pandemic.
