How can gynecologist help in the diagnosis of acral melanoma in women?
detected MIS and in 52 (35%) of patients that had MIS detected by a physician (p<0.001).In multivariate logistic regression analysis, self-detection of MIS was significantly associated only with location on extremities (OR: 2.90, 95% CI: 1.83-4.59,P<0.001), independently of age or sex. Conclusions: In our study, the location of MIS on extremities was associated with higher probability of self-detection, while age and sex were not. There was a considerable number of patients who reported noticing changes in size, color and shape but did not selfdetect MIS, highlighting some gaps in awareness of melanoma detection in the population.
