Increased Risk of Melanoma-Specific Death Among Antidepressant Users
registered. This project aims to re-evaluate the health and economic burden of skin cancer and their implications for optimizing skin cancer care.A systematic review on skin cancer cost-of-illness studies demonstrated variability in costs by skin cancer type and stage, highlighting the importance of disaggregating costs.Systemic treatments were identified as the main cost driver in advanced melanoma. To complement the economic insights, we also examined health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of KC patients. While the overall impact of KC on HRQoL was minimal, patients with multiple KC lesions experienced higher worries and poorer perceived health compared to patients with a single lesion. However, the choice of HRQoL instruments plays a crucial role in capturing the true impact of KC, as generic tools often lack sensitivity to capture the impact of KC.This understanding may question the suitability of utilities as outcome measure in KC and highlights the need for broader discussion on selecting optimal outcome measures for skin cancer care.Building on these insights, the project will evaluate the costeffectiveness of innovative strategies for skin cancer care, e.g. an AIbased smartphone app for early skin cancer detection, nurseinitiated lesion-directed consultations and the use of reflectance confocal microscopy. These analyses aim to determine whether these approaches can optimize care delivery and reduce healthcare costs while maintaining or improving patient outcomes. The results of this project may help to define the most cost-effective strategies to manage the growing skin cancer burden efficiently.
