Comparison of the treatment’s outcomes of locally advanced and infected neoplastic lesions located in the craniofacial area in elderly people with dementia and/or Alzheimer's disease using skin grafting or flap advancement technique
Patients and treated lesions characteristics.Patient characteristics can be found in Table 1.The number of treated lesions in one session ranged from 10 to 18, the size of lesions ranged from 1 cm to 10x5 cm.Complete response (CR) (RECIST criteria) was observed at the follow-up appointment after 2 months: all lesions in patients n1 and n3, partial response (PR) in patient n2.PR of the biggest, ulcerated lesion in patient n2 was later treated with excision. No side effects were reported from patients n1 and n3.Patient n 2 reported persisting hyperpigmentation of the largest treated areas, tingling sensation and burning in the treated field.Side effects diminished after a few months. All patients reported good quality of life after one year and willingnes to repeat procedure. Conclusions: This case series highlights ECT as effective mode of local treatment in patients with multiple BCC.It demonstrates a high cure rate with mild side effects, and as such is a favourable procedure for these patients.Additionally, the ability to repeat sessions provides flexibility in managing recurrent lesions.Further studies should explore its potential and timing of combined treatments with available systemic therapies.Long-term follow-up is essential to evaluate durability of response and to better understand its role in integrated treatment protocols for BCC management.
