Epidemiological and Clinical Profile of Keratinocyte Cancers in a Predominantly Black and Mixed-Race Population: A Retrospective Analysis in Bahia, Brazil

Background: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), known as keratinocyte cancers, are the most common neoplasms worldwide, with an estimated annual incidence of 2-3 million cases per year. Despite their high frequency, scientific literature primarily focuses on Caucasian subjects, lacking representative parameters for the world's diverse demographics. Bahia, a Brazilian state, presents a unique context for investigating these neoplasms as it has the largest Black community outside Africa and high UV radiation levels.
