Pre-treatment with topical tirbanibulin of surrounding NMSCs cancerization field, to improve surgical outcome. A case-control study

Background: Non-Melanoma Skin Cancers(NMSC), such as Basal(BCC) and Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)represent a significant economic burden to health services due to the large volume of affected patients. Surgical excision with histological assessment of margins is the mainstay of treatment.Incomplete removal represents a poor prognostic indicator, increasing the risk of recurrence. Studies emphasize that actinic keratoses are frequently found in the lateral margins of excised NMSC.Histopathological features in the perilesional skin of NMSC demonstrate the presence of actinic keratoses(37.5%) and actinic damage (20.5%) in SCCs, as well as 6% and 12.5% in BCCs, respectively.Since the efficacy of surgical treatment depends on margins free from neoplasia, improving the clearance of surgical margins before excision is a fundamental task.
