Advancing Telehealth Education, Dissemination, and Implementation: Leveraging JTIBS as a Central Communication Hub

Abstract Telehealth competencies, standards, guidelines, interjurisdictional model acts, and other agreements are needed for all aspects of digital health care, written in a way operationalized or translated into practice, to be broadly applicable. This commentary provides professional, language, and geographically specific documents to benefit telehealth practice worldwide and applies existing guidelines to new technologies (e.g., social media), populations (e.g., indigenous peoples), and readers (e.g., clinicians and researchers). It shares commonalities or divergencies across continents, languages, cultures, and professions are worth sharing, as are conversations between industry leaders, students, and early-career professionals who provide insightful and challenging questions. JTiBS can help as an interprofessional and international hub by educating the JTiBS and other journals’ readership and disseminating strategic guides for professionals worldwide from all behavioral health disciplines. While telehealth originated in 1956 with telepsychiatry, implementing telebehavioral health (TBH) competencies among clinicians has been thwarted by a spotting understanding of its role in education and clinical practice. The overnight, forced implementation during COVID, forced clinicians to use telehealth technology overnight, without appropriate preparation through education and supervised experience for all aspects of digital health care (e.g., video, telephone, texting, apps, and social media).
