A Patient and a Therapist in Dialogue With Two Rorschachs
Abstract: This case presentation explores two questions: (1) How accurate is the Rorschach Test at capturing the psychological functioning of a person, and (2) would a retest after 14 years reflect the psychological evolution self-reported by the person and observed by their therapist? Following Constance Fischer’s statement that “it is the client himself who is in the best position to confirm or clarify the evaluator’s impressions” ( Fischer, 1970 , p. 71), we present the patient’s written comments on the Rorschach test and retest results and the therapist’s opinion on the patient’s psychological evolution. Through this three-voice dialogue, we found that the Rorschach captured personality traits that are remarkably constant over time and that resonated with the patient. The personality changes that the patient and the therapist reported were also reflected in the results. The retest was performed on the patient’s request and this article was written not only with his consent but also with his collaboration as coauthor.
