TIME-DEPENDENT PERSONALITIES’ PERSPECTIVE AND CAREER ASPIRATION IN THE EARLY ADULTHOOD
The article subject is the time-dependent personalities’ perspective and career aspirations in early adulthood. 135 respondents (university students) participated in our correlation study. The early adulthood season/ era as defined by D. Levinson spans between 17 and 40 years that is divided into several periods. The time-dependent personalities’ perspective was defined by F. Zimbardo’s questionnaire adapted to Russian by A. Syrtsova, O.V. Mitina and E.T. Sokolova. S.N. Kostromina’s modified questionnaire was used to identify and evaluate career aspirations. The structure of time-dependent personalities’ perspective is close to the balanced one but is slightly more pessimistic that in the works of A. Syrtsova et al. The hedonistic present positively correlates with “career development” and “aspiration for wider communication”. The future positively correlates with “sense of purpose’ and ‘responsibility”. Such correlations are statistically significant for the whole early adulthood season/era. The intensity degree of time-dependent personalities’ perspective stays the same throughout all adulthood periods. However, ‘career development’ is more pronounced in the “age 30 transition” group when compared to “early adult transition” and “entering the adult world” groups.
