PRE-RETIREMENT PEOPLE’S REPRESENTATIONS ABOUT RETIREMENT IN RELATION TO THE TIME PERSPECTIVE OF THE FUTURE

The article deals with the study of representations about their future in retirement among pre-retirees in connection with their professional time perspective. The following methods were used in the study: the author’s questionnaire, including 25 statements regarding plans for the retirement period (Cronbach’s alpha > 0.72). To study the professional time perspective, the Russian-language version of the questionnaire “Occupational Future Time Perspective” (OFTP) by H. Zacher and M. Frese in the adaptation of T.Yu. Bazarov and A.V. Paramuzov was used, the socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents were analyzed. The study involved residents of different cities of Russia from 44 to 63 years old (N = 400), all respondents are working, by gender 50,2% are women, 49,8% are men. Using cluster analysis, five empirical types of respondents were identified based on the content of their ideas. The results of the study show that pre-retirement people’s ideas about themselves in retirement differ both in their emotional component – positive, neutral or depressive – and in the presence or absence of specific intentions and goals in their future life, which is consistent with the orientation of pre-retirement people towards their capabilities. It is concluded that most of our respondents either perceive their future with skepticism or display a reaction of “withdrawal” into private life.
