U-Pb Zircon Age from Plagiogranites of Orogenic Peridotite-Gabbro Massifs in the Tekeli Mountains, Dzhungar Alatau (Southern Kazakhstan)
Petrographic, geochemical, and geochronological data on albitized plagiogranites associated with mélanged peridotites and gabbroids from the Tekeli Mountains are presented. The research was conducted at the IGN in Almaty and using equipment from the Geological Institute (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences), Bulgaria. A zircon age of 312±10 million years, obtained through mass spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma and laser ablation (LAICP- MS), indicates a Late Carboniferous crystallization age for the plagiogranites from the serpentinized mélange zones of the Tekeli Mountains. The Late Carboniferous zircon age is considered the crystallization age of the plagiogranites, with the crystallization of the acidic magma taking more than 10 million years. Based on the geochemical specialization of the plutonic rocks, it is concluded that the plagiogranites and gabbroids formed during the continental rifting stage. The goal of the article is to publish original materials on the petrography, geochemistry, and geochronology of plagiogranites derived from late-stage mafic-ultramafic mantle magmas.
