Integrated Blood Separation Microfluidic Chip for Prostate-specific Antigen (PSA) Detection

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is one of the most important biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of prostate cancer. This paper reports an integrated self-driven microfluidic diagnostic chip for PSA detection, which is designed to simplify the entire procedure from whole blood sample input to quantitative PSA concentration output. We integrated three technologies into one single device: automatic blood plasma separation by the membrane, on-chip microparticle reaction, and microparticle accumulation for result visualization. Sequential capillary draining is utilized to extract blood plasma separated by the membrane and also to control the flow sequence and velocity of different solutions to achieve a highly efficient reaction [1, 2].
