Elastic thermoelectric generators
Flexible thermoelectric devices, capable of using the temperature difference between the human body and the environment, offer a sustainable energy solution for wearable electronics. However, they struggle with the inherent rigidity of high-performance, inorganic materials and the durability issues of designs based on plasticity. Recent studies have proposed elasticity as an effective solution to these challenges. Through operating within the limits of elastic deformation, these devices can withstand repeated bending without structural change, maintaining their initial power output. The plastic processing has been shown to enhance elasticity by refining grain structures and introducing dislocation. In this perspective, a comprehensive and forward-looking analysis of the emerging field of elastic thermoelectric materials and device is presented. The findings highlight the critical role of elasticity in improving the functionality and longevity of thermoelectric materials, suggesting broad implications for future applications in flexible electronics.
