Parasitic Pixel Surface-Reused Antenna With Low-Frequency Wide-Angle Scanning and High-Frequency Fan Beams
A shared-aperture antenna with diverse radiation beams in dual bands is proposed in this letter. A parasitic dual-function pixel surface composed of periodically arranged pixel unit cells, which is adopted as the wide-angle impedance matching (WAIM) layer of the low-frequency wide-angle scanning phased array, is reused to support surface waves at the high-frequency band, thereby broadening the half-power beamwidth (HPBW) of a printed dipole. The design and optimization of the pixel surface are presented and discussed. The designed antenna supports its scanning coverage of -60° ∼ +62° from 3.51 to 3.75 GHz and a fan beam (HPBW > 125°) within the frequency range of 5.2 ∼ 7.1 GHz. The above dual-band operations can be applied to the integration of point-to-point communication and point-to-multipoint sensing.
