Electric Mobility in North East India: Transforming the Region's Transportation Landscape

The current state of economic development and population growth has made increasing the number of road transportation fleets necessary. In contrast, internal combustion engine cars are now the main producer of air pollution in the road transportation industry. According to the IEA, 24 percent of carbon dioxide (CO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>) emissions worldwide come from internal combustion engine cars. In India, the carbon footprint of road transportation accounts for almost 90% of emissions. India's capital city, New Delhi, has made news of its unheard-of levels of air pollution and poor air quality. Changing from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles (EVs) is one possible way to address this problem. In this work, the North Eastern (NE) region states in India are considered to showcase the possibilities of adopting EVs. Also, different policies proposed by the government and private agencies are elaborated, and the challenges are mentioned properly.
